Meet Denise

My fertility journey began in 1995 and took me on a path that included a variety of treatments and experiences.  It was a journey that caused me to doubt myself in every way, though now I can look back and see the blessings of my experience.   I found my life’s passion of teaching and empowering others in the many aspects of birth, and Brad and I conceived  Timothy (8) and Ryan (4).  In addition, I came to see fertility as something to aspire to because it strengthened my life force and my creativity, in addition to making conception possible.

Along the way I left a successful career in the corporate world, completed Heart & Hands Midwifery Intensives & Advanced with Elizabeth Davis, attended a DONA Certified Doula Training at Blossom Birth, and trained with Pam England through Birthing From Within Childbirth Education Levels 1-3.  More recently, I completed a 9 month Wise-Woman Apprenticeship with Ayla Miner from Chrysalis Woman, and took a Nourishing Traditions Class Series with Shan Kendall.  Over the last 15 years I have also engaged in extensive self-study and workshops in fertility, pregnancy, birth, nutrition, and women’s studies.

I have practiced as a doula, and childbirth educator.  Furthering my knowledge and delving into the journey of the Sacred Feminine are woven into the fabric of my daily life experiences as mom and my responsibilities of caring for my family.  I gather in women’s circles regularly, am actively involved in the community, and volunteer extensively at the Yuba River Charter School, a Waldorf charter school in Nevada City.  I am also a member of BEPE, Birth and Early Parenting Educators, on the Internet at http://www.bepe.info/

I am not currently teaching a childbirth education series though I will soon be teaching Navigating the Landscape of Birth; a birth, pregnancy, and parenting information and resource class.  Plans for future classes focus on the cycles of womanhood, including menstruation, and menopause, and a restorative movement class for cultivating fertility.  My other interests include African drumming, yoga, 5 Rhythms Dance, cooking, gardening (especially herbs!), and watching my kids discover the world!
